Who Needs More Sleep, Men Or Women? Here's Exactly How Much And Why

Sleep is something that we all need in order to properly function day in and day out. There is no getting around it, as we simply cannot keep going and going without ever getting any rest. There has been countless studies over the years however, that have shed light as to how many hours we truly need every night in order to function properly the next day. Now, we have a better understanding of this, based on recent findings.
Determining how many hours of sleep we need each night, depends on many different factors--your age, the needs of your body, and as new evidence tells us, your gender. Whether you are a male or a female can ultimately decide how much sleep you really need to properly carry out day-to-day activities. Do you think you know which gender needs more sleep? Women or men?
The question leads into another one, who has a more complex brain? Women or men? Well, we have to take a look at gender lifestyles--what a woman's day is like and what a man's day is like. Women typically have more responsibilities on their shoulders which brings higher stress levels. Men have pressures of working and feeding their family, but not nearly as much stress as women have.
Science has just confirmed that women need more sleep than men. The reason may surprise you. With all of the pressures that women face, studies show that women have more complex brains than men do. The more complex a brain is, the more sleep that is required in order to carry out daily duties.
Understanding why we need sleep can help better explain this. When we sleep, our bodies are still up repairing everything we did from the day before. They are healing, kicking out any threats to our health, and are working overtime to reset us for the new day to come. This is why sleep is so important for us to get enough of, to allow our bodies to heal and recharge, so we can do everything again the next day.
Imagine how much energy your brain uses daily. All of the decisions you have to make, the thinking you have to do, the memories you collect, all of these activities need your brain to function at their highest ability. The more you use your brain, the more time it needs to recover. Recovering means you need adequate amounts of sleep to do so.
Think of how often women must multi-task in a single day. All of that multi-tasking takes a toll on our brains, and will eventually catch up with us. That's why on certain days you may feel more mentally exhausted than others. Have you ever noticed however, on the days where you actually got 8-10 hours of sleep, how much more on top of everything you were? That's because sleep will not only help you recover from the day's stresses, but will keep you staying mentally sharp as well.
We all know that men and women's brains are wired differently. Men can function on less sleep than women because they don't have to multi-task as much as women do during the day. Women, on average, need at least twenty more minutes of sleep than men do. It's also to the point where studies are showing women need more than eight hours each night. It is now leaning more towards 9-10.
If you notice that you often feel sluggish during the day, take a look at your sleeping patterns. Are you getting less than eight hours? If so, by just altering your sleep schedule and increasing it more, you could start to feel more alert during the days ahead.

Micro-napping is another healthy way to let your body get a recharge every now and then. If you feel like you haven't been getting adequate amounts of sleep, taking a twenty minute nap can give your body a jumpstart to finish out your day. The plus side, is micro-napping is cheaper and healthier than grabbing a coffee or that midday shot of caffeine instead.
