No one likes hearing about how some dogs are neglected by their owners. It jeopardizes the poor animal's health, diminishes their quality of life, and ultimately breaks down their spirit. Dogs are supposed to be happy, healthy and loved.
Usually when we hear of a dog who has been neglected, it was only for a few weeks or months. Well, how would you feel knowing that some dogs have been neglected by their owners for years? Seven years to be exact for one sweet dog...
Lazarus the dog, isn't just your normal everyday dog. He is a trooper dog, especially after everything he has been through. His owner was terminally ill, and simply could not take care of him anymore. So Lazarus ended up getting trapped outside in a barn that his owner left him in. Lazarus' owner would feed him, but unfortunately couldn't do anything else to help take care of him.
The years went by, and finally on the seventh year, help was finally called to save poor Lazarus. Rescuers couldn't believe what they were seeing when they found Lazarus in such a neglected condition. You see, imagine never grooming your dog for years, and what that would make your dog look like.
This poor dog had a build up of feces and dirt that trapped the entrance to the barnyard door. He was literally stuck, to where rescuers had to shovel it out of the way to try and set Lazarus free.
Lazarus also ended up accumulating an immense amount of fur from the seven years of neglect he had experienced. You could barely even tell he was a dog under all of that fur. It was really hard to see the outline of his facial features, and even the colors of his undercoat. As soon as he was rescued, everyone started working on Lazarus immediately.
A groomer was called in and they instantly started cutting Lazarus' fur off. Everyone got into doggy makeover mode to get Lazarus back to a healthy state again.
Many hours and 35 pounds of fur later, the real Lazarus appeared. He looked so different, that you never would have guessed the new and improved dog was really Lazarus. He wasn't a fan of everything that the groomers were doing--after all, what dog likes to be groomed? However, he was a trooper, and made it through.
Since Lazarus was trapped in the barn for seven years, he was not used to all of the attention he was suddenly getting from everyone. It broke the rescuers' hearts to see such a beautiful dog be so shy of people.
After receiving his doggy makeover, Lazarus is now recovering from his traumatic experience at the Big Fluffy Dog Rescue. With some much needed R & R, Lazarus should be on his feet in no time, ready for adoption.

Neglecting dogs is not fair to them by any means. In this scenario, the owner was terminally ill, but someone should have stepped in to help take care of Lazarus on behalf of the owner, so he was never neglected in the first place.
