If you're hanging out with friends at the beach or at someone's house and you're wanting to hear some tunes, you might be sorely disappointed if you can't find a sound system, you don't have an auxiliary cord for your cell phone or your BlueTooth just won't sync. So what do you do?
Run out to McDonald's, of course! Yes, that's right. McDonald's. The fast food restaurant chain has unveiled an incredibly amazing sound system out of something awfully amazing.
The University of Waterloo's Audio Research Group and the industrial design group Stacklab have developed the McDonald's Boombox out of its recyclable drink carrier. The team created foil-embossed double-cone speakers that amplify sound volume and quality that accentuate a phone's built-in maximum volume.
To use it, simply flip over the drink tray, pop out the two metallic red speakers on each side, then insert a cell phone into a special slot located in the middle of the tray. Next, crank up the music on your phone and listen as the drink tray enhances the tunes.
The foil-embossed double cone speakers are pretty high tech. They're designed to increase sound volume and quality while minimizing sound leakage to essentially double a phone's maxed out sound level.
This is a pretty innovative and clever project! Who knew that you could craft something high tech out of something so simple that's easily discarded. These special trays are only available for a limited time.
