Man Rescues Drowning Prairie Dog, He Realizes It's Not Breathing And Knows He Needs To Act Fast

There are two universal truths in this world that make people say "awww" - babies, and animal babies! When it comes to animal babies, they really know how to make us feel like jelly on the inside, especially when they get themselves tangled up in precarious situations. Even brawny, tough guys can turn into cry babies if the right animal comes along to tug at their heartstrings.
When Arizona pool repairman Rick Gruber discovered a waterlogged prairie dog floating in a backyard pool, he knew he had to do something to save the critter's life. He wasn't about to watch this helpless animal succumb to its desperate circumstances!
Rick saw this prairie dog drowning in his pool. He quickly pulled it out, but then noticed it wasn't breathing and didn't have long to live. He was determined not to let that happen.
"I'm going to see if I can save the little guy."
The handyman draped the poor little thing across a PVC pipe, and then used his fingers to give the critter gentle CPR compressions on its rib cage. Rick was hoping the prairie dog would spit out the icky pool water it had swallowed. Sadly, the tiny baby looked like a wet pool noodle, and except for a few twitches now and then, it seemed to be just as lifeless as one.
Even though the prairie doggy couldn't possibly understand what Rick was saying, he continued to offer words of encouragement to the adorable brown nugget. Rick wasn't going to give up on his real-life rescue animal! He told AZ Family:
"He looked like he needed help, and I figured he hadn't been in there for very long. I figured I could try to pull him out and try to see if I could bring him back to life because there was still a chance he hadn't been in there for maybe a minute."
Rick kept at it for over an hour, keeping a close eye on his new charge, waiting to see if it would finally come around and pull through. When it finally opened its eyes, Rick was ecstatic!
