Five Pounds Of Fur Shaved Off This Poor Abused Cat

When we think of our older loved ones living alone, ideas on how to give them companionship run through our heads. Should we set them up with a potential love connection? Sign them up for a class? Or should we get them a pet to ease their loneliness?
The third option is what many people land on and it's exactly what happened with one older gentleman from Chicago. The man loved his cat, but when he became ill, caring for the cat fell by the wayside.
For years, Sinbad the Persian cat lived in the elderly man's basement as his health continued to decline. It seemed as though Sinbad's own days would be numbered, but then a miracle happened.
A utility worker fixing something in the man's house discovered Sinbad alone, covered in matted fur and struggling to survive. The worker immediately called The Anti-Cruelty Society (ACS) in Chicago and had the cat transferred out of the home and into their care!
As soon as Sinbad reached the ACS building, the veterinary staff members knew that the massive amount of fur needed to come be removed immediately. They carefully shaved off piece by piece, being careful not to hurt Sinbad's sensitive skin.
One of the ACS staff members named Elliott Serrano told LoveMeow that Sinbad was incredibly calm during the long shaving process.
"He was so tolerant and sweet during the grooming which was grueling. It took hours."
After the shaving was complete, they weighed Sinbad and then the mountain of fur that was taken off of him. Sinbad weighed just under seven pounds and the fur alone weighed around five pounds.
Elliot told LoveMeow that Sinbad's exuberant personality was severely inhibited by his malnutrition and injured leg, which was revealed after the shaving was complete.
"Once free of the mats he just wanted to lie down on somebody's lap or in his bed."
The ACS staff decided to force-feed Sinbad until his digestive system was back in working order and he was feeling healthy. Sure enough, their plan worked and within a week, Sinbad was playing like a kitten even though he was nine years old.
Elliot was so smitten by Sinbad's sweet nature and his impressive will to survive that he decided to be his foster parent until he was adopted from the shelter.
On the second day, Sinbad crawled onto Elliot's chest and started to purr loudly. It was clear Sinbad was ready to live out the rest of his days with Elliot - and Elliot was on board with that idea.

Both Sinbad and Elliot were thrilled that they were going to live with each other permanently. Elliot told LoveMeow that having Sinbad at home is amazing and he's recovering better than anyone could've expected!
"He has recovered very well and for a cat of nine years, after going through what he has, is very friendly and frisky."
Now Sinbad is famous online and thriving under Elliot's care!

Elliot says that Sinbad's trusting nature is proof animals can be loving no matter what. Even though he was mistreated for years, Sinbad loves to meet new people and has an absolutely wonderful relationship with his new Cat Dad!
