95-Year-Old Widow Invites Much Younger 27-Year-Old Into Home

After her husband passed away, 95-year-old Florence was desperate for someone to talk to. She didn't think she had anything to lose when she signed up for a "homeshare" scheme that pairs seniors with younger roommates.
When Florence was matched to a 27-year-old student named Alexandra, she knew nothing about the girl. However, the loneliness was really beginning to take a toll on her, so she invited the young woman to move in without a second thought.
By the time the partially-sighted RAF veteran found out what Alexandra's true intentions were, it was already too late to back down!
Although we live in a world where we can instantly connect with anyone online, it's a poor substitute for real social interaction. Sadly, the epidemic of loneliness and isolation in our senior population is more profound now than ever before.
Florence is only one of over 9 million adults in the UK who say they are always lonely. Sometimes the desire for human contact can run so deep, our elders may throw caution to the wind and let total strangers into their house!
One day Florence came across a homeshare advertisement in the newspaper, and it seemed like a win-win situation. In return for keeping the senior company and helping out around the house, the roommate would get low-cost accommodations.
Florence's children have married and moved on with their lives, and all she wanted was someone to chat with now and then. But, she got more than she bargained for when Alexandra came into her life. Florence told the BBC:
"I wanted to do it because I was very lonely. When you retire from work you stop using your brain, you're not as active as you used to be and you're bored to tears. You are used to leading an active life and suddenly there is nothing."
It wasn't until she met her younger roommate that Florence really understood the implications of what she had gotten herself into. The elderly woman had been hosting roommates for a decade, but Alexandra was far from what she appeared to be.
With a gap of 68 years between the two ladies, it seems like they wouldn't have much in common. Alexandra was supposed to help Florence feel comfortable and safe in her own house. But, something else happened after the two met each other.
That's when Florence finally saw Alexandra's true colors! The senior never could have imagined how much her life would change when she heard someone turn the key and unlock the front door...
