Nothing complements an American ball game quite like hot-dogs and cheering fans - except of course "The Star Spangled Banner." It is rare for a sporting event to ever start without our national anthem. In fact, even non-sports fans will tune in just for this special part!
Sadly, this beloved American tradition has been in the hot-seat recently, and many people are not happy about it. Some sports teams have even gone so far as to ban the national anthem in an attempt to side-step the bad press. Unfortunately for one California high school, this controversial decision backfired big time.
Students at one California high school have had enough of the recent drama surrounding our national song, and their huge reaction has quickly gone viral. As they settled in to watch their high school softball championship game at Fresno State's Margie Wright Diamond, an official announcement over the speakers immediately took them by surprise.
Officials declared that this game would start without the traditional "Star Spangled Banner" due to the fact that it had been played earlier in the day. Stunned, the students couldn't believe their ears. Not only was this ritual important for the proud fans, but seeing as it was the Friday before Memorial Day, they knew that something had to be done.
"Within seconds, you could hear people in the crowd singing and the volume of their voices building. There I was, standing in the middle of a true testament to unity and patriotism."
Their incredible act caught the attention of news organizations across the country, and officials later released a statement announcing that the national anthem will now be played before every game from here on out.
