Family reunions are always great. Seeing them get together and feel more love for each other is truly amazing. They are almost always a miracle.
The story of Steve Stansfield, however, is beyond that. After 38 long years, he was finally able to see, hold, and talk to his biological parents.
When Steve was just 3 months old, his parents had to give him up for adoption. They were really young that time and because of their situation, they figured that little Steve would have a better life in the care of another couple. It was truly a huge sacrifice on their part.
Luckily, Steve ended up in the care of a really loving couple. He grew up as an only child and they loved him deeply and completely. As he was growing up, they made Steve aware of where he came from and what his biological parents gave up for him.
With so much love and understanding, Steve found a lifetime partner. After getting married, he now has kids he's raising very well.
Despite having a really good life, Steve didn't forget about his biological parents. He kept thinking about them and dreamt about meeting them after all those years.
Understanding his husband, Erin Hanson, helped Steve search for his parents. And thankfully, after a change in the Pennsylvania State Law in 2017, they were able to find them and Steve's siblings! The said law enabled adoptees over the age of 18 to apply for their original birth records. With Steve's record, the couple now had names to search for.
Erin was first able to reach Nicole Foran, Steve's biological sister, on Facebook. At first, she felt nervous sending her a message. After all, there's the possibility that he's not related to Steve. However, it turned out that Nicole and her entire family have been looking for their brother for a really long time.
From there, every piece fell into place. The reunion was planned and everything went perfectly. After a Skype-fest, Steve's biological parents, CarolAnn and Bill, had flown all the way to the Lowcountry. Erin was able to film everything and it was such a really touching moment. Everyone was in tears as they witnessed the long-awaited reunion.
Two days after, the siblings got together for the first time. They were laughing and having pizza as they were catching up. Funny thing was that Steve's brother Matt actually played in a band with the same guy who used to be Steve's best friend while growing up.
Truly, it was a story that's guaranteed to bring a smile on your face.
