Daughter Writes Message On Arm For Mom And Dad

Often, we think of children as very innocent human beings who aren't aware of how the world really works. Although it's true that they are innocent in many ways, they understand more than we think they do. Sometimes, though, the way they understand things renders us shocked and speechless.
One mother heard some bad news from the school, but after she got her kids and made sure they were safe and sound, she made a shocking discovery on her daughter's arm. The message brought tears to her eyes and made the rounds on the internet.
On February 8, it was supposed to be an ordinary school day. But things didn't go as expected for the students and faculty of a New Castle County school. The secretary received a bomb threat and the school was promptly put on lock down. The police came and checked the rooms and yard. They swept the place clean and declared everything to be safe and secured.
Finally, everyone was able to let out a sigh of relief. Turns out the call had been a prank and one done in bad taste. Parents had been initially worried, and one Delaware mom had thought the worst.
Shelley Harrison Reed had received notifications on Facebook about the lock down. And, like many parents, she was worried about the threat. But after the police declared that everything was fine, she was relieved. In an interview with TODAY, she said:
"I felt that the school handled it very well."
The day had gone on as usual. Shelley picked up her children, Sean and Vanessa, from the bus stop and asked them about the incident. It further calmed her down when she saw that her children didn't look upset. They seemed none the wiser, and both had participated in drills before in their school.
Later during the day, while Vanessa was changing, Shelley saw something on her arm. It turned out to be a message her seven-year-old girl had scrawled on her arm. It simply read:
"Love Mom and Dad."

The message made Shelley burst into tears. She immediately gave her daughter a big hug. During a moment of fear, Vanessa was thinking that she needed to let her parents know that she loved them very much just in case she never saw them again. The sad thought broke her parents hearts. When Shelley's husband came home he asked about the writing on Vanessa's arm.
Jeff hadn't known about the lock down and thought that his daughter had been merely playing with her markers. Then, Vanessa embraced him and told him what happened. Their son, Sean, also revealed that his primary thought during the event was that he had to get to his sister.
Both Jeff and Shelley expressed how proud they were of their children, whose first thoughts were not of themselves but of their family.
