When Amanda walked into a vintage store with her best friend, Rick, the staff, Angelica and Nikki, had no idea they were about to be challenged by this petite woman. Amanda was getting married that weekend, and, through some inexplicable reason, her wedding dress was ruined three days before the wedding date. She needed a new wedding dress ASAP! Normally, this would faze anyone else, but not at The Way We Wore. They love challenges like this!
The Way We Wore is an iconic vintage store on South La Brea Ave in Los Angeles operated by vintage specialist Doris Raymond since 2004. Doris has been collecting and selling vintage clothing, jewelry, accessories for 30 years and was excited to finally have her own home. In her store, you'll find different styles of clothes from different eras. There's haute couture, esoteric, casual fashion, evening wear, and even sportswear. When you step into her store, you'll be greeted by different types of clothes, separated according to the decade. You'll also find jewelry and accessories on this floor. When you go up one more floor, you'll find all the evening dresses, haute couture, gowns, and designer ready-to-wear clothes. And, to keep things exciting, new clothes and accessories are added to their stock every week.
The Way We Wore and Doris Raymond and her boutique staff are also featured on the Smithsonian Channel hit show, LA Frock Stars. LA Frock Stars features the store's everyday challenges to deliver the vintage needs of their clients. Besides answering the vintage calls of their clients, they also regularly visit high-end auctions, flea markets, and estate sales to look for their next vintage treasures.
In this episode, Amanda needs help looking for her wedding dress. When the staff asked her more about her look, Amanda said she wanted more of an old Hollywood look. "When Amanda came in, and it was three days before her wedding...we all immediately felt the pressure, like, okay, right let's find you something that will get you out of her and get you married!" Angelica remarked.
And off to work they went! Nikki told them that they'll "take note of what you took and pull out the same stuff." And Angelica showed Amanda two different styles so they'll have an idea of what she likes more. And Amanda couldn't get her eyes off the 70's inspired metallic brocade print gown in Angelika's hand. Now, with a better picture in their heads, Nikki and Angelica go up to the top floor, with all the evening gowns, to pick more clothes for Amanda to choose from.
As Amanda and Rick join them upstairs, Amanda couldn't help but lament, "I can't believe I'm in this situation!" They join Nikki, who has a few short, white dresses hung up for her to try but Amanda said she was actually looking for something longer. Nikki showed her a long, white, sexy gown and Amanda's jaw dropped. That was going in the fitting room for her to try for sure!
Amanda went to the dressing room and tried on two gowns. She came out with a big smile on her face with the first gown, a Christian Dior-inspired 50's satin ball gown. "I feel like a princess!" she declared. And everyone agreed. Angelica said this was her favorite gown in the whole boutique and she's even tried it on a few times. But she wanted to try more and see if any other dress had the same feel for her. With the next dress, a silk chiffon gown with floral embroidery, she came out with an even bigger smile. And everyone agreed she was sexy and beautiful in that dress. From coming in without any dress, Amanda now has two gowns to choose from.
