When watching musical talent competitions we normally see solo artists auditioning and vying for a spot that will help them reach their dreams of becoming successful in the music industry. Seldom do we see group acts such as trios, and whenever we do, we really watch carefully and follow their journey throughout the competition.
In the recently premiered The Voice Season 16, one trio made it past the blind auditions after getting two of the judges to turn for them. The members of the group are siblings and they definitely amazed the judges with their beautiful harmony!
Megan, Katey and Ryan Bundy are siblings and the bond they share as a family translates to the music and harmony that they make on stage. They are the first to audition as a trio in this season of The Voice.
Performing “Closer to Fine” popularized by the Indigo Girls, the trio did not sing as a group at the beginning. Blake Shelton, one of the show’s judges, was so mesmerized by the first female singer that he turned his chair around and was shocked that he actually turned for a trio! At first, he was uncertain if he made the right decision, but later on and as the siblings performed, Blake was just so happy he turned for them. They were absolutely fantastic!
Kelly Clarkson, another judge from the show, also turned for the trio. She enjoyed their performance so much that she even stood up and danced! The trio was able to get these two judges to turn for them. When it was Blake’s turn to speak, he said:
“I turned around and saw a trio, and instantly, I’m like, ‘This is not what I bargained for.’ All of a sudden, it went from, 'Oh no, oh God,' to, 'Oh yes! Oh God, yes!' They have this country harmony, they got this family sound that you can only have with siblings. Please let me be a part of this historic journey."
However, Kelly did not easily back down and tried to get the trio to choose her, too! She said:
"I really love harmonies. I really feel like I can be a solid coach for you. I really love your voice. They make fun of me a lot, but when I'm passionate, I talk a lot, and you know what's a great coach? A passionate coach!"
