Henry Winkler Reveals Reason For Happy 40 Year Marriage

It's hard to believe that it's been since 45 years since The Fonz first graced our living room TV screens. Although the show finally ended after a good 10-year run, Henry Winkler's "Happy Days" never actually ended. Shortly after landing the iconic role on the family-friendly show, Henry met Stacey Weitzman, and he's been in wedded bliss ever since!
By today's standards, being married for 40 years to the same person is quite a feat, but in Hollywood circles, it's nearly unheard of. However, for Henry and his wife, those 40 years were, and continue to be, happy for a few very simple reasons.
When Henry first laid eyes on his wife Stacey back in 1976, it was definitely love at first sight. While some men don't recall what their significant other was wearing when they first met them, it was a vivid "lady in red" type of moment for the actor, if you just substitute the color purple and puffy pants in place of a slinky red dress. The 73-year-old actor told PEOPLE magazine:
"She was wearing purple parachute pants and she had red hair and without her ever saying a word, I thought, 'Whoa, beautiful woman standing in front of me.'"
Henry asked his future wife out for a soda, and as soon as she said 'yes' the two dashed across the street to grab a couple of ginger ales. Within weeks Stacey and her 4-year-old boy had moved in with Henry, and in 1979 they married and had two more children together.
Theirs was a typical marriage, so why, like so many of their celebrity counterparts, didn't theirs end in tears? Stacey admits that although they're not the same people they were when they first got married, some things still hold true:
"But certain of the tenets you hold dear are still intact. It does take work. There are glitches in the road, and you get a little off kilter, but if you have the ability and the stick-to-itiveness based on love, then your friendship and your relationship only get better."
Making adjustments along the way, and growing into their marriage despite all the changes, was key ensuring that the couple made it through these past 40 years of "happily ever after."
The ups and downs of celebrity life hasn't changed them as a couple, because they take the time out to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. More importantly, Henry and Stacey know how to live in the moment, and the Emmy-winning actor says:
"We enjoy fly fishing together. We enjoy grandchildren together. We enjoy going to the movies together. We truly enjoy each other every day."
Henry really loves watching his five grandchildren grow up, and he wouldn't to have his life be anything other than what it is right now:
"I'm thrilled to be on this earth. I'm thrilled with my family and I'm thrilled to be doing great work."
Just like The Fonz, Henry's real-life character is super cool in every way, especially as a father, grandfather, and loving husband to a wonderful wife.
