One night in Oregon, a call was received on 911. A house sitter was calling for help. They believed there was an intruder in the bathroom. They heard strange noises coming from the bathroom and, not taking any chances, called 911 to apprehend the suspect. The dispatcher asked what happened and the house sitter said they heard noises coming from the bathroom. They tried knocking on the door but there was no response.
Deputy Brian Rogers and his officers responded immediately and quickly arrived at the house. They weren't taking any chances. Deputy Rogers and the officers carefully made their way inside the house and to the bathroom. But when they opened the door, they were surprised and didn't expect who the culprit was. Or should we say, what the culprit was? You will never guess!
They opened the door and realized the burglar was a Roomba, a robotic vacuum cleaner. Inside Edition's Los Angeles-based correspondent, Jim Moret, did an experiment in his home. "How could you mistake a Roomba for a burglar?" he asked. So he placed a Roomba in his bathroom and closed the door to check if it had the same effect. When they checked under the door, it did make shadows and it made loud noises that you could mistake a for a burglar. "If I didn't know better, I might mistake that for a thief," Jim agreed.
A few minutes after arriving at the house, Deputy Rogers radioed dispatch and reported that it wasn't a burglar but it was "a robot vacuum cleaner." Deputy Rogers said, "When we entered the bathroom, there I am pointing it at a robot."
The police posted a photo of the Roomba and labeled it under a "Most Wanted" sign with the word "Captured" on top of the photo. Followers of their social media account had a field day with their jokes. One follower said, "The criminals are really cleaning up." And another one said, "Looks like you got the dirt bag." On YouTube, viewers had their own say. One commented, "Now, Roomba is having to do community service at the police station." And another one said, "Roomba: please don't hurt me, I'm just a cleaner unit. Did I clean this room up well sir?"
