When a policeman goes out on patrol, there are any number of unexpected situations he may encounter that day. But, searching for a group of suspicious people in the woods behind a Walmart store isn't typically an activity on his daily to-do list.
Yet, that's exactly what two sheriff's deputies in Sacramento, California, were tasked with doing. Ferreting out the trespassers became a top priority.
During their canvass of the area, the policemen spotted a woman and three disheveled-looking children sitting on some nearby rocks. The instant Mom saw the cops, she felt in her gut that they were in trouble.
It wasn't that they were doing anything terrible. They were simply trying to survive....
As soon as Deputies Johnny Le and Tim Yee took one look at the children's faces, they became choked up with emotions. The officers knew that something wasn't right and became increasingly concerned about the scene they had just discovered.
After cautiously approaching the woman, the officers learned that her name was Shannon Loveless. She admitted to keeping these poor kids in her van for the past four months.
She was in the middle of making lunch behind the Walmart where she thought she'd be safe from prying eyes, when the cops finally caught up with her. The two deputies had no choice but to take the woman and her three vulnerable children away.
The kids were terribly frightened and confused. Mom was panicky as they had no idea what was going to happen to them.
But, it was where the deputies took them that no one saw coming! Shannon's first reaction upon seeing the cops was that she was going to get into trouble because she was homeless and was struggling to take care of her kids.
However, Deputy Le and Yee proved that there's more to law enforcement than flashing blue lights and a stiff uniform. His actions completely stunned Shannon and brought her to tears.
The children were a ball of emotions. Mom was, too.
