Grocery stores bustle with shoppers in the week leading up to Thanksgiving. It can get crazy hectic in the aisles and some people tend to lose patience in the checkout line.
Danielle Vinson and her little boy Benjamin popped into a Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, hoping to pick up a few groceries and the necessities to fix their family's Thanksgiving dinner. But by the time the cashier had already scanned half of her groceries, Danielle realized something that made her instantly panic.
Being a mom it had already been a stressful day - and it had just gone to a whole new level.
Danielle had left her wallet at home! She rummaged through her diaper bag, but couldn't find it, so the first thing she could think to do was phone her husband for help, she told KCRG.
"I call my husband really fast and say I forgot my wallet I don't know what to do can you come bring it to me?"
But that meant the cashier would have to void the order and all of her groceries would go back in her cart and wheeled off to the side while she waited for her wallet to arrive. Danielle was mortified to say the least!
Suddenly, Danielle heard the woman behind her speak up. However, instead of being annoyed about the situation, what she had to say blew the mom's mind.
"Keep ringing everything up, I'll take care of it."
Danielle couldn't believe what she heard, sharing on Instagram:
"I whipped around in absolute disbelief and shook my head. I glanced at the screen at an unfinished subtotal of $70 and whipped around, thankful, but insistent that it was just way too expensive. 'Seriously, don't worry about it, I need to do something for the holidays. Merry Christmas, enjoy' she told me, with insistence stronger than mine."
In the end, the total came to $178.86 worth of groceries. Danielle couldn't help but get teary over the stranger's generosity - immediately thanking the woman and giving her a great big warm hug.
Danielle asked the woman for her name and address so she could send a thank you card, but the woman declined. She simply wanted to do something special for someone for the holidays.
"It was the most incredible generosity I've ever experienced in my life ... This is the stuff you read about that makes you smile, but when it's real life, YOUR reality? You changed my life today, ma'am. This moment is now forever ingrained in my heart, and every thanksgiving I'm bringing YOUR love to my table. Thank you, from the peaks to the depths of my heart. Thank you."
So Danielle posted her incredible story on social media in the hopes that others would be inspired to help her pay it forward. Not surprisingly her checkout aisle adventure has gone viral.
She told KCRG:
"I think it's been a huge reminder for so many people that have responded that we are surrounded by such an amazing community and such great people here and I mean there's always good and there's always love and it's just been such a cool amazing experience that has not only impacted me but now just like spread to the community."
Since then, Danielle's brainstormed how she could pay it forward personally and she's decided to head to Starbucks and pay for customers' drinks there. What a wonderful thing this complete stranger did for Danielle at such a nerve-wracking time!
